Authorities in Kenya’s Coast region have intensified operations against criminal gangs, resulting in multiple arrests and the seizure of drugs, ammunition, and forged land documents. During the operation, at least five suspects were arrested.
In the latest development, detectives acting on credible intelligence apprehended Mohamed Omar Deya, alias “Babanginda,” who was found with three rounds of ammunition and a white powdery substance suspected to be narcotics.
Expanding the operation, officers arrested Hanif Iqbal Sharbaz and Wisdorn Ndoro Mwalimu.
Both suspects were discovered in possession of forged land-related documents, along with other exhibits believed to be connected to criminal activities.
In a separate incident, detectives also arrested Priscila Lodukae. A subsequent search of her residence, conducted alongside John Wachira Wanguno, yielded packages of suspected cannabis sativa and cash in various denominations, which investigators say are believed to be proceeds from drug sales.
Speaking on the ongoing crackdown, a senior Coast region police officer said, “We are committed to dismantling criminal networks in the region. These arrests demonstrate our resolve to target not only drug trafficking but also forgery and other organized crimes.”
The officer added that the operation is part of a broader national strategy aimed at reducing crime and curbing the distribution of illegal substances.
“Substance abuse and narcotics trafficking pose significant threats to our communities. We are determined to ensure that criminals face the full weight of the law,” he said.
Authorities are also urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
“We rely heavily on community support. Anyone with information can report anonymously through our toll-free line 0800 722 203 or via WhatsApp at 0709 570 000,” the officer emphasized.
This recent string of arrests comes amid a series of successful operations across the Coast region targeting organised crime syndicates.
The police vow that the crackdown will continue unabated, with further intelligence-driven operations expected in the coming weeks.
Residents are encouraged to cooperate with authorities while the investigations into the arrested suspects proceed.
